In this video: Watch as Pastor Alfred explains how Jesus responded when questioned about the reward for following Him. Following Jesus, is doing His word and we qualify for blessings (example: tithing & offerings brings abundance and health). But when we lack the knowledge, we cannot take advantage of the promises yet Grace of God helps us till we mature in Christ.
Sermon Summary:
Jesus was questioned about the reward for following Him, for the sacrifices made in this life to preach the gospel and how someone could qualify for eternal life.
The mother of two brothers (James and John – sons of Zebedee) desired her sons to rule with Jesus by sitting on His either sides, as a reward for their ministry of Gospel. But Jesus answered that it was the Father in heaven who decides that honor.
Jesus replied to Peter about sacrifices made towards Gospel and being a follower of Christ: the rewards are hundredfold here on earth and the promise of eternal life.
A young rich ruler was disappointed to hear that keeping all the commandments was not enough but also sacrifices of earthly possessions was necessary! When earthly riches possess you, then you’re not a candidate for Heavenly treasures.
Jesus emphasized the greatness in serving than receiving. In Christ, we are asked to forgive and forget. We are required to know the scriptures; what the Word instructs us to be and do.
Following Jesus, is doing His word and we qualify for blessings (example: tithing & offerings brings abundance and health). But when we lack the knowledge, we cannot take advantage of the promises yet Grace of God helps us till we mature in Christ.
We receive answers for our prayers as we follow the procedures (come before the Lord in humility, with forgiving heart).
